Step 1 of 2Read the paper
A famous 1975 study found divers remembered words better when they recalled them in the same place they learned them (on land or underwater). This paper tried to repeat it: 16 divers heard word lists on land or underwater and recalled them 4 minutes later in either place, with every diver doing all four combinations.

How to read it
- In the Introduction, find why the author thinks replicating famous studies matters.
- Study Table 1 to see how the order of conditions and word lists was arranged.
- Compare Figure 1a (this study) with 1b (the original): which bars should be highest?
- Note: a 2022 addendum re-analyses this data. Answer from the original paper; its Discussion lists differences from 1975.
